The DCA has a long history of gardening activities. Many of the original members – men especially – were avid gardeners. In our earliest history, the DCA made many plant-related improvements in Darien, such as large-scale planting of trees, and the addition of flowering window boxes at the train station.
Today’s gardening activities are proudly managed by the DCA Greenhouse Group. These events include hands-on workshops in our famous Ellen Biddle Shipman Formal Garden, a holiday craft workshop, speakers on gardening topics, and our annual DCA Plant Sale May 8th and 9th (see below).
Upcoming Gardening activities
Join the DCA Greenhouse Group for this hands-on gardening workshop outside in the formal garden.
Shop at the the DCA Plant Sale and stay for afternoon tea. What a perfect day!
Help your garden grow
Shop from over 2,000 organically-grown hardy perennials from our greenhouse: sun-loving, shade-loving, native, deer-resistant, and ‘cool’ new plants are available. A few colorful annuals are on offer too, as well as some strong performers we just can’t live without (and don’t think you’ll want to either). No charge for entry.
Thursday 6:00 – 7:30pm: enjoy a glass of wine while you shop!
Friday 9:00am – noon: sip coffee and let our knowledgeable team help you find the right plants (many will be marked-down).
Join us for Tea
Enjoy freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, tea sandwiches, and homemade cakes and pastries in our historic home, offered by Carolyn’s Absolutely Fabulous Events. Click for more on our Plant Sale Tea.
