The DCA is proud to offer Canasta classes for players of various levels, with experienced instructor and Darien resident Sue Ozanne.
In Canasta, commonly referred to as “Argentine Rummy,” four players forming two partnerships use two decks of cards to create “melds” of seven cards that lead one group to eventually “go out” and win.
The more advanced “Hand and Foot Canasta” is an advanced level of Canasta, perfect for the player who has either taken Beginning Canasta or has previously played the game. “Hand” and “Foot” refers to the 2 hands each player holds; 4 decks of cards in total are used. According to our players, “more cards = more fun!”
Canasta is a great game to play with friends, combining learning and strategy with social times. Unlike Bridge and Mah Jongg, while playing this game, you can talk!

Learn & Play Canasta
These classes are perfect for those new to Canasta, or those who want to increase their existing knowledge. Over three Thursday afternoons, students new to the game will learn the flow of the game, how to create melds, point values, scoring and going out, as well as tips on strategies to help your partnership come out ahead. Those who have some experience may chose to learn “Hand and Foot” Canasta, or enjoy the game under the supervision of our instructor, Sue Ozanne.
These classes are not scheduled at the moment. Please contact the DCA should you wish to be notified should this class be offered.
