The DCA is proud to offer both Beginning Canasta and advanced Canasta classes, with experienced instructor and Darien resident Sue Ozanne.
In Canasta, commonly referred to as “Argentine Rummy,” four players forming two partnerships use two decks of cards to create “melds” of seven cards that lead one group to eventually “go out” and win. The more advanced “Hand and Foot Canasta” uses four decks of cards, challenging each player to manage two hands at once.
Canasta is a great game to play with friends, combining learning and strategy with social times. Unlike Bridge and Mah Jongg, while playing this game, you can talk!
Learn Canasta over the course of three Tuesday mornings. In these sessions, students will learn the flow of the game, how to create melds, point values, scoring and going out, as well as tips on strategies to help your partnership come out ahead.
This class is not yet rescheduled for new dates. Should you wish to be notified of the next class, please contact the DCA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hand & Foot Canasta
Hand & Foot Canasta is an advanced level of Canasta, perfect for the player who has either taken Beginning Canasta or has previously played the game. “Hand” and “Foot” refers to the 2 hands each player holds; 4 decks of cards in total are used. According to our players, “more cards = more fun!”
This class was held in January, as is not yet rescheduled for new dates. Should you wish to be notified of the next class, please contact the DCA at email@example.com.
